Communications & Public Policy Specialist (Remote) Location Remote in New York, NY :

Department: Social Impact Communications & Marketing

Salary: $73K - $86K USD.

Location: Remote (Candidates need to be based in the US to apply for this position)


World Education Services (WES) is seeking a Communications and Public Policy Specialist to join the Communications and Marketing Department of the organization's Social Impact Division. The incumbent will be a storyteller and a strategic thinker as well as a skilled writer and researcher. They will have the ability to write in short and long formats, to use visual storytelling tools such as PowerPoint, and to synthesize complex information with close attention to accuracy and nuance. Knowledge of and interest in the academic, economic, and social inclusion of international students, immigrants, and refugees is a plus - likewise, knowledge of social impact programming and policy advocacy. This individual will work as part of an accomplished team of communications professionals seeking to advance the organization's impact and mission. Knowledge of a range of communications software, tools, and platforms is required.

Duties included but not limited to:

The position will work directly with the Senior Communications Manager and other team members to:

  • Research, write, publish, QA, and produce a range of content, including written stories, infographic content, web content, newsletters, media pitches, social media posts, conference proposals, PowerPoint decks, and more.
  • Generate and develop issues-specific editorial ideas.
  • Create and/or pitch WES-authored content for external audiences.
  • Develop and conduct interviews.
  • Provide quality assurance for written materials and decks, including editing, copy editing and proofing copy.
  • Participate in annual and quarterly content planning.
  • Uphold brand standards and WES style guidelines.
  • Manage content workflows, approvals, and calendars.
  • Remain current on emerging trends in communications technologies and key issue areas related the economic, social, and academic inclusion of immigrants, refugees, and international students.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public policy, journalism or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree is an asset.
  • 4 years of work experience in a related field.
  • Meticulous writing and editing skills in long and short-form formats.
  • Curiosity mindset and attention to detail.
  • Expertise in fact-checking.
  • Research and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to translate complex issues to comprehensive narratives.
  • Knowledge of and interest in immigration, refugee, and international student issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint usage, Hootsuite (or other social media management software), Google Analytics, Cision (or other media monitoring platform).

Working Conditions

  • We are a remote-first work environment, and we have a team that is distributed throughout Canada and the U.S. Employees based near our NYC office enjoy the flexibility of working in the office or at home. WES' NYC office has a shared, open office environment with break-out and meeting rooms and light to moderate noise.
  • Based in the US with occasional travel to Canada.
