Job Description
Graphic Designer Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Graphic Designer will provide concept development, design, art direction, production and print coordination of a wide range of print and digital marketing projects as a member of the team responsible for advancing Champlain College's brand and offerings.
The candidate is a savvy, experienced design professional with advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, outstanding design and production skills and a high-achievement orientation. The Graphic Designer will oversee the design and production of print and multimedia content to ensure that all projects are high quality, consistently appropriate for their intended audience, exceptionally well branded and clearly reflect the mission and strategy direction of Champlain College.
As a lead member of a team charged with meeting critical deadlines for a high volume of projects that fulfill strategic purpose and a variety of functions involving multiple stakeholders, the position requires a true team-oriented approach, excellent critical judgment and effective client focus. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and organizational skills, with the ability to proactively manage multiple concurrent projects and work productively and professionally with a variety of team members and clients are essential to success.
Responsibilities: Develop visual content for web, social media, email, digital advertising, and print publications and advertising:
- Graphic Production: Update and create designs for print, GIFs, motion graphics/animations, banner ads, and static content for social platforms. Understand RGB and CMYK color spaces.
- Creative direction: Execute a design from concept to completion and enable team members' work to align as part of a creative system.
- Design Production Process: Ensure all files meet current industry standards and best practices.
- Brand Standard Alignment: Ensure all design aligns with brand standards.
Photography:
- Art direct and schedule photoshoots in support of visual storytelling needs, including student activities and campus events.
- Edit and curate photos.
- Maintain a visual library and organize photograph and video assets.
- Assist with taking photos on location when opportunities arise.
Project Management:
- Articulate specifications for all pieces and properly communicate with internal team and external vendors.
- Ensure all files are clearly named following proper naming conventions. That drafts and final files for print or go live are properly filed.
- Meetings with clients regarding project design, content, timelines, and production
- Facilitating internal proof management through project management system.
- Work well in the project management system to provide excellent communication to the team and foster workflow.
Brand Management:
- Work with vendors and those seeking to use the College logo and identity marks to ensure brand adherence and consistency.
Design Systems Management:
- Maintain exports, font management, color space management, scripts, and document templates to ensure consistency across all design people and designers.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Multimedia/Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Branding, Marketing, or related field preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the field is preferred. Experience in higher education is helpful.
- Must have advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent design skills
- Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously, and completing high-quality work against strict and conflicting deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills required. Ability to interact well with people under pressure of multiple deadlines.
- Ability to take direction on projects and accept conceptual changes.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships and direct outside vendors such as photographers, videographers, freelancers, and printers.
- Photography skills strongly preferred
- Proficiency with cloud systems like Google Drive and file management.
- Experience with evolving and enforcing visual brand identity across an institution's outward facing communications
