Part-Time Physical Education Teacher
Job responsibilities include:
- Maintain positive classroom management and adhere to the SJPS Discipline Flowchart when addressing challenging student behavior.
- Supervise pupils at St. Joseph Parish School while instructing students in physical education activities.
- Plan the physical education program to promote the development of a student’s physical attributes, emotional well-being, and social skills.
- Teach individual and team sports to students, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of the physical capabilities of students.
- Prepare lesson plans and establish curricular goals based on Archdiocesan Standards.
- Plan classroom lessons based on a teaching outline in order to meet curricular requirements.
- Organize, lead, instruct, and referee individual and team sports to students, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and the physical capabilities of a variety of students.
- Collaborate with administration, colleagues, and parents to provide differentiated instruction and assessment and appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with special learning and/or physical needs.
- Instruct classes in calisthenics, gymnastics, or corrective exercises. Determine the level of difficulty by applying knowledge of sports, physiology, and corrective techniques.
- Select, assemble and maintain the proper equipment for each lesson.
- Observe and evaluate pupils’ work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
- Confer with students, parents, and administrator to resolve problems or conflicts.
- Communicate with parents/guardians via email, notes, and phone calls as needed. Make every reasonable attempt to respond to messages (electronic, voice, paper) within 24 hours of receipt. No more than 48 hours should pass before contact is made.
- Collaborate with the faculty on special projects that promote integration of physical education across the curriculum.
- Implement cross-curricular opportunities into the physical education classroom.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and periodically report to the principal about the overall effectiveness of the physical education program.
- Continue professional development through course studies, conferences, and workshops.
- Set, work toward, and track professional learning goals based off of the teacher effectiveness framework domains.
- Assess students on a regular basis using summative and formative assessments.
- Plan and execute annual field-day experience for students.
- Keep accurate records of student performance through trimester reports using online grading system.
Qualifications
POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a college degree in the field of elementary/middle level education or working towards certification.
- Must attend proper level sessions in "Sustaining the Mission" series scheduled each year.
- Must complete Safe Environment Training before beginning employment and renewal training every five years.
- Must submit a criminal background check every five years.
- Must read and sign The Code of Ethical Standards, Mandatory Reporting Responsibilities.
- Position requires ability to stand, walk, bend over/crouch and sit for extended periods of time; ability to use hands, speak, and hear.
- Canidate does not need to be Catholic for this position, but a Catholic canidate is prefered.
