Job Summary:

The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptional Pediatric Surgeon, with experience and training in Fetal Surgery strongly preferred. We will also consider exceptional candidates with other clinical or academic interests, such as pediatric colorectal surgery. We are looking for dynamic, innovative individuals with a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience.

The successful applicant will join a division with 6 surgeons in a well-established, exciting team, and must have a strong interest in clinical practice and a demonstrated interest in research, education, and training. The ideal applicant should have a desire to build a robust and academically focused clinical practice while being integrally involved in the education and training of general surgery residents and medical students. Fetal surgeon candidates will support the continued rapid growth of the UW Health Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center, offering clinical services at both American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH) and Meriter Hospital, in close collaboration with faculty leaders in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Neonatology. The fetal center is a NAFTNet member site and actively participates in numerous multicenter clinical trials in active enrollment.

The UW Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, currently 7th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research at the University of Wisconsin. The Department's Office of Clinical Research provides 24/7, 365 day a year clinical trial coordinator support for Clinical Trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post- award support. The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin also provides access to a network of surgeons throughout the state and this platform provides opportunities for collaborative quality improvement that improves the care of surgical patients throughout the state and region.

Responsibilities:

The primary ambulatory and hospital practice site is American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH) in Madison, Wisconsin as part of UW Health Kids.

AFCH is a world-class children's healthcare center with the full spectrum of medical and surgical resources including a level IV neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care, ECMO, ACS-verified level 1 pediatric trauma center, fetal diagnosis and treatment, children's cancer center, and a busy cardiac surgery program. A goal of the Division is to continue to build and strengthen the general pediatric referral basis to the clinical practice, attracting patients from across the state and region through outreach.

The successful applicant will have an active role in medical student and resident education, and will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to academic rank. Within the Department of Surgery, extensive resources are available to support both clinical and basic science research interests. Time dedicated to clinical activities will be 80% and the remaining time will be dedicated to opportunities for research, teaching and regional support..

For those appointed to the CHS title track, academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Academic duties and responsibilities beyond baseline faculty expectations will depend on individual interests and expertise. Qualifications:

Completion of a training program in pediatric surgery accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) or the RCPSC (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) is required by the start date.

Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges at the time of appointment.

Candidates must possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank at the CHS Track that have been previously established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines. Appointment as Associate Professor or full Professor will require that candidate's credentials meet criteria for rank established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines.
