Job Summary

Reporting to the General Counsel & Chief Legal Affairs Officer, this position provides strategic legal advice and counsel to Georgia Gwinnett College. This position is responsible for: conducting legal research; drafting, reviewing and revising contracts; handling open records requests; legal advice regarding Title IX, VAWA, Clery, and other areas of law associated with higher education, as assigned.

Responsibilities

Provide legal advice and counsel to the College on: business and higher education law matters; contract interpretation, drafting and revision; risk assessment; drafting and reviewing policies; general intellectual property law and matters, sponsored research, international programs, Title IX, VAWA, and Clery.

Develop processes in areas including: records retention; open records; contract processing; drafting and reviewing policies; and other areas as assigned. Draft, review, revise and approve policies.

Conduct legal research and provide analysis of legal and business issues, as assigned.

Maintain a streamlined process to ensure the review and approval of contracts are processed at optimal levels. Oversee comprehensive contract training across the campus. Negotiate, draft, and revise complex contracts. Assist in the production of Open Records Act requests.

Assist with investigations. Gather and manage discovery materials in litigation matters.

Ensure compliance by the College with applicable laws and regulations at the local, state and federal levels.

Work directly with administrators and faculty. May design and deliver training.

Conduct legal research and analysis and draft legal memoranda.

Keep current on developments in law and regulation at the federal, state, and local levels about higher education institutions, including Title IX and VAWA

Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor

  • One or more years of active work experience as an attorney;

  • Ability to become an active member of the Georgia Bar within one year of employment
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe, databases, Microsoft Teams and contract management software;
Effective professional communication (verbal and written), organization skills and the ability to work in a collegial manner within the Office of Legal Affairs and with the other members of campus;
